Subject Unknown
A downloadable game for Windows
You are a cryptozoologist searching for proof of the creatures that haunt the forest.
Armed only with your camera and a flashlight, you enter a dense, uncharted forest rumored to hide something unnatural. The deeper you go, the more valuable evidence you can uncover — strange footprints, eerie remains, and glimpses of the creature itself.
Will you capture the proof you seek... or become the next unsolved mystery?

Subject Unknown is an early prototype. The goal right now is simple: test whether the core gameplay loop feels engaging and worth expanding.
Gameplay Objective
You start each level in an are with a flashlight, a camera on the floor, and a computer. Your task is to explore the area, find strange things, and take 6 photos of evidence—this could include environmental oddities or the creature itself. Once you’ve captured all 6 photos, return to your computer to complete the mission and receive a score based on your photos.
That’s it—for now.
There’s no polished progression, no deep systems, and no guarantee things won’t break. This prototype is focused purely on testing the feel of the loop: explore → observe → capture → return.
I’d love to hear:
-
Was it fun or tense?
-
What worked, what didn’t?
-
Would you want to play more if this were expanded?
Share your high score! I believe the highest possible is 100!
Thanks for playing!!!

Install instructions
Use 7-Zip or a similar tool to unzip the file.
This is a Unity game, so after unzipping, simply click the "SubjectUnknown.exe" executable under the "SubjectUnknown" folder.
For the .zip file:
If Windows gives you a warning like "this file came from another computer and might be blocked to protect this computer" — don't panic. Windows sometimes marks downloaded files this way even when they're safe. It's a feature, not a bug (allegedly). You can right-click the ZIP or EXE, choose Properties, and check "Unblock" at the bottom before extracting or running it.
Or just use 7-Zip — it ignores this nonsense entirely.
